Elements Green acquires 300 MW BESS project in Scotland

Elements Green has acquired the Newarthill battery energy storage system (BESS) project located near Motherwell in Scotland. The project, acquired from Geocore, has a 300 MW storage capacity with a planned two-hour duration and the potential to expand to four hours duration. The project received planning approval in February 2025. The project will connect through an adjacent 275kV substation, with a grid offer secured from NESO under the ongoing grid reform process. Energisation of the project is expected in October 2029.

In January 2026, Elements Green acquired the Bolney Green Energy Hub site from Envirotech Energy Solutions located near Wineham. The hub features a 148.8 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with a 4-hour duration. The project follows the successful signing of a share purchase agreement whereby Elements Green has received full ownership of the West Sussex development. The project was approved by the Mid-Sussex District Council in September 2024 and is expected to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2027.

In September 2025, EDF and Elements Green inked a long-term agreement for the delivery of the 360 MW/720 MWh Staythorpe battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Nottinghamshire. As part of the arrangement, EDF will provide a guaranteed minimum income from grid balancing along with the project’s 15-year capacity market contract. The project is in the construction stage, and is expected to start operations in 2027.
