The Government of Niger has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) with Niger Electricity Power Production (NEPP) to develop a 200 MW solar photovoltaic plant with battery energy storage system (BESS) in Niamey. The project represents an investment of 126.1 billion CFA francs. Project construction and financial mobilisation are expected to take approximately 24 months.
Furthermore, the project after commencing operations will sell electricity directly to state-owned utility, Société Nigérienne d’Électricité (NIGELEC), at a contracted tariff of 35 CFA francs per kWh. The project will be implemented under a 20-year build, operate and transfer (BOT) concession. At the end of the concession period, the project’s ownership will be transferred to the State of Niger.
In September 2026, CrossBoundary Energy commenced operations of its solar and BESS project for Kamoa Copper South Africa. The project comprises a 233 MWp solar photovoltaic array and a 123 MVA/526 MWh BESS. The project will supply 30 MW of baseload power to the Kamoa Copper mining complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
