ABO Energy and the City of Oulu have signed a cooperation agreement to advance a large-scale green hydrogen project in northern Finland. The project, to be developed over 41 hectares, would reportedly have 600 MW of expandable electrolyser capacity across two to three development phases. The project, located in the Pyyryväinen green transition zone, follows a site reservation secured in 2025.
Furthermore, ABO Energy is also evaluating synthetic methanol and sustainable aviation fuel production as downstream applications. Process waste heat from hydrogen production is planned to be integrated into Oulu’s local district heating network. ABO Energy Suomi will make the project’s final investment decision subject to further technical and commercial assessments.
In August 2026, ABO Energy sold its Huenfeld green hydrogen project in Germany to Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH. The project includes a 5 MW electrolyser, hydrogen refuelling station and trailer filling station. The plant has been producing renewable fuel of non-biological origin-certified green hydrogen since August 2025, with annual production of up to 450 tonnes.
