Ørsted to acquire 172 MW offshore wind farm in UK

Ørsted has exercised its buyback right to acquire the remaining 49.9 per cent stake in the 172 MW Gunfleet Sands 1 & 2 offshore wind farm in the UK for approximately £15 million. Ørsted currently owns 50.1 per cent of the project. The transaction is expected to be completed in November. The project is located 7 km off the Essex coast in the UK and has been operational since 2010. Once the transaction is completed, Ørsted will fully own and operate the wind farm.

Earlier, in September 2026, Ørsted and its partner Nuveen Infrastructure inaugurated Borkum Riffgrund 3, Ørsted’s offshore wind farm in Germany. The 913 MW offshore wind farm is located around 72 kilometres off the German North Sea coast and is jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, with each holding a 50 per cent stake.

In May 2026, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners launched Perigus Energy following the acquisition of Ørsted’s European onshore renewables business through its fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V). Perigus Energy currently has 826 MW of operational and under-construction renewable energy capacity. Perigus Energy will develop, build, and operate onshore wind, solar, and battery storage projects across Ireland, Germany, the UK, and Spain.
