METLEN and Karatzis Group have inaugurated a standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Larissa, Thessaly, Greece. The facility has an installed capacity of 330 MW/790 MWh. The project was developed through a joint investment vehicle in which METLEN and Karatzis Group hold 49 per cent and 51 per cent stakes, respectively. METLEN was responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility.
Earlier, in July 2026, METLEN acquired a 40 per cent stake in a special purpose vehicle owned by Tsakos Group to jointly develop a hybrid renewable energy project in Greece. The project will comprise a 251.9 MW solar photovoltaic plant coupled with a 375 MWh BESS.
In March 2026, PPC Group and METLEN Energy & Metals entered into a joint venture (JV) agreement to develop BESS projects across Romania, Bulgaria and Italy. The agreement provides for the creation of a JV company in which both companies will hold an equal 50 per cent stake.
