Karnataka milk unions to procure solar power through group captive model

The Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (KMF) has requested bids for the establishment 100 MW of solar power projects for KMF and its other member unions by deploying group captive model. The aggregate cost of the project is anticipated to be around Rs 3.92 billion. The bid submission deadline is August 16, 2022.

According to the tender guidelines, bidders need to submit Rs 43.1 million as an earnest money deposit. Also, the bidder should have implemented one such similar work with worth not less than Rs 1.98 billion in the last five years. The selected bidder will also be accountable for the project’s operation and maintenance for 25 years.

The base price of electricity has been set at Rs 3.85/kWh, including transmission charges and electricity cess. The power project’s base capacity is approximately 100 MW, which ensures that after deducting all electricity charges, KMF and its member milk unions can draw 132.22 MU yearly from the planned group captive solar project.

Recently in July 2022, Milma, the cooperative dairy facility administered by the Kerala state government has installed a 2 MW captive solar installation at Ernakulum. The new installation has managed to decrease monthly electricity expenditures from Rs 4 million to Rs 1.5 million.
