BRICS countries have signed the New Delhi Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to addressing climate change through the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The declaration has recognised the importance of renewable energy, hydrogen, hydropower, energy storage and other low-carbon technologies in strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable development. It also called for greater cooperation on zero- and low-emission hydrogen standards and certification frameworks and noted ongoing work on the BRICS Joint Report on Hydrogen Value Chains.
The countries have welcomed cooperation in areas such as smart grids, energy storage, sustainable aviation fuels and transport decarbonisation. They have also supported the establishment of the BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence for Smart Grids and Energy Storage under the Smart Grids Workstream of the BRICS ERCP.
In addition, the declaration has highlighted the importance of cooperation on critical mineral supply chains, climate research and carbon markets. The countries have also supported the development of a solar photovoltaic cooperation roadmap aimed at promoting technology cooperation, financing and capacity building.
