SunAsia Energy to develop 1 GW Laguna Lake floating solar project

SunAsia Energy has partnered with Gunkul Engineering Public Company Limited to develop a floating solar project on Laguna Lake in the Philippines. The project will have an installed capacity of about 1 GW and represents an investment of more than $1 billion. The project is expected to commence commercial operations by the end of 2027.

Furthermore, the project forms part of SunAsia’s broader Laguna Lake floating solar development, which has secured 10 solar energy operating contracts from the Department of Energy. The contracts cover a combined capacity of 1,318 MW across around 1,000 hectares of lake surface. Blueleaf Energy Philippines has been supporting the project since 2021 through development and funding assistance.

In June 2026, SunAsia Energy and VinEnergo partnered to develop a 422-MWp solar on water portfolio across Pampanga and Negros Occidental, Philippines. The portfolio comprises three floating solar projects representing an estimated investment of $406 million. The projects are targeted for commercial operation between 2027 and 2028.
