The Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney paid an official visit to India from February 27, 2026, to March 2, 2026. During the visit, the two sides inked a series of MoUs. The first MoU is for building resilient, secure, and diversified critical minerals supply chains. In this context, India endorsed the G7 Critical Minerals Action Plan, which promotes diversified and responsible production and supply of critical minerals and encourages investment and innovation in value chains supporting clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and technology. The leaders also discussed India’s participation at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada meeting in March 2026 and agreed on a ministerial-led Indian energy and industry delegation to Canada in the summer of 2026 to support commercial engagement between companies from both countries.
Another MoU was inked for clean energy cooperation, which establishes an institutional framework to expand collaboration in solar, wind, bioenergy, small hydro, energy storage, and capacity-building. The agreement aims to strengthen energy security and accelerate the energy transition through information exchange, joint investment opportunities, and enhanced public–private engagement across the renewable energy value chain. Furthermore, a joint working group will be established to facilitate cooperation under the framework.
Additionally, the countries will convene an India–Canada Renewable Energy and Storage Summit in 2026 to bring together industry representatives, investors, and policymakers to expand trade and partnerships in these technologies. India also welcomed Canada’s decision to pursue membership in the International Solar Alliance. In addition, the country welcomed Canada’s signing of foundational documents to upgrade its participation in the Global Biofuels Alliance as a full member, which is expected to enhance collaboration on sustainable biofuels, including standards, supply chains, and lifecycle emissions.
