Tata Power has signed a MoU with the Government of Assam to develop 5,000 MW of renewable energy and storage projects, including solar, wind, and hydro, with an investment of Rs 300 billion over the next five years. The government of Assam will facilitate the identification and allocation of approximately 20,000 acres of encumbrance-free government land on a lease basis and assist in acquiring private land for these projects.
Additionally, the state government will also support the necessary infrastructure for seamless transmission, establish renewable energy parks through state agencies and identify land for group captive sites, allowing industries and tea gardens to procure clean energy under Assam’s land allotment and industrial policies. Additionally, to accelerate implementation, it will provide single-window clearances for statutory approvals, financial incentives, collaborate with research institutions, and conduct skill development programmes for project execution and operation.
Moreover, Tata Power’s subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has also entered into an MoU with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited to promote renewable energy adoption and enhance energy efficiency across the state. This agreement will particularly focus on scaling up rooftop solar projects under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, while also generating 3,000 direct job opportunities.
