The US Department of Energy (DOE) has given MMEX Resources Corp. the go-ahead to move its regional clean hydrogen hub project to the final application stage of a $8 billion funding programme. Reportedly, the concept paper for the energy infrastructure builder’s Trans Permian H2Hub project was accepted by the energy department on December 27, 2022. Under a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) announced in September 2022, MMEX Resources’ hub proposal is competing to be one of the six to ten projects chosen to receive a DOE investment of between $500 million and $1 billion.
Concept papers were due on November 7, 2022, and full applications are now due on April 7, 2023. As per the statement, the Trans Permian H2Hub is planned to include numerous projects spanning the cities of San Antonio, San Angelo, Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, El Paso, Fort Stockton, Alpine, Presidio, and Del Rio, with an outreach of hydrogen attributes across Texas, the US Southwest, and Mexico. In two of the projects, green hydrogen and ammonia plants are planned for Pecos County and El Paso, respectively. A November 2022 presentation estimates the CAPEX for each at $494 million.
In August 2022, DoE released a Request for Information (RFI) to help guide the execution of $335 million in funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for lithium-ion battery recycling programs. The DOE’s announcement of $3.16 billion in financing from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in May 2022 is expanded upon in the RFI.
