Powertrac has announced its plans to set up a 10 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company has signed an order agreement with SUNKA LEAD, a China-based provider of battery manufacturing equipment and automation solutions, for the proposed production line. The facility will use automated systems for BESS container fabrication, material movement, robotic assembly, inspection, testing, and quality control.
Furthermore, the expansion will extend Powertrac’s business from solar energy into energy storage. It plans to cater to utility-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial solutions, grid stabilisation, ancillary applications, and operations and maintenance services. Powertrac currently has 480 MW of distributed renewable energy independent power producer projects under signed power purchase agreements.
Earlier, in February 2026, Powertrac Group invested Rs 6 billion for the development of a 1,000 MWh per annum containerised BESS manufacturing facility.
