POWERGRID commissions transmission system for 7 GW Khavda RE zone

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has commissioned the transmission system for the evacuation of power from the potential renewable energy zone in the Khavda area of Gujarat under Phase IV (7 GW) – Part E4. The project achieved commercial operation with effect from June 21, 2026, in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission

In June 2026, POWERGRID emerged as the successful bidder under the tariff-based competitive bidding process for the development of the interstate transmission system (ISTS) associated with the proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Kakinada area (Phase I).

In February 2026, POWERGRID, through its wholly owned subsidiary Powergrid Narela Transmission Limited, commissioned an ISTS in Rajasthan to facilitate the evacuation of 8.1 GW of solar power. The project will evacuate power through high-capacity 765 kV transmission corridors, enhancing overall grid stability.
