Germany awards 2.5 GW onshore wind capacity

Germany’s Federal Network Agency has released the results of the onshore wind and innovation auction. The onshore wind auction awarded approximately 2.5 GW across 270 winning bids from 628 submissions totaling roughly 6.4 GW, significantly oversubscribing the 2.5 GW tender. Successful bid prices ranged from 4.44 ct/kWh to 5.19 ct/kWh, with a volume-weighted average of 5.06 ct/kWh, down from 5.54 ct/kWh in the previous round. Lower Saxony secured the largest awarded capacity with 628 MW, followed by Brandenburg (468 MW) and North Rhine-Westphalia (353 MW).

The innovation auction for combined solar-plus-storage projects awarded 482 MW across 27 winning bids from 46 submissions totaling 749 MW, exceeding the 475 MW auction volume. Successful bid prices ranged from 4.75 ct/kWh to 5.61 ct/kWh, with a volume-weighted average of 5.34 ct/kWh, broadly in line with the previous round. All awarded bids were for hybrid solar and storage projects, while two bids were disqualified. Bavaria secured the largest awarded capacity with 287 MW, followed by Schleswig-Holstein (53 MW) and Brandenburg (51 MW).

In September 2025, Germany’s Federal Network Agency released the results of the innovation auction that concluded on September 1, 2025.
