JSW Steel Limited, Bharatia and Carbon Iceland International have signed a MoU to jointly explore the development of a large-scale green methanol (eMethanol) project in India. The agreement was signed in Oslo, Norway, during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit.
The proposed project, of 300 KTPA aims to utilise carbon dioxide emissions generated from JSW Steel’s operations in district Raigad, Maharashtra, for further conversion. The captured carbon dioxide is intended to be processed into eMethanol using green hydrogen produced through renewable energy sources.
In November 2025, JSW Energy Limited commissioned a green hydrogen manufacturing plant adjacent to the JSW Steel facility in Karnataka. The plant will supply green hydrogen directly to the direct reduced iron unit of the steel facility to support low carbon steel production.
