Tata Power signs Rs 30 billion MoU with Tamil Nadu for solar manufacturing

Tata Power has signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government under which Tata Power would invest around Rs 30 billion for developing a 4 GW solar cell and solar module manufacturing unit in the state. The said greenfield facility will come up at Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district. This investment would help generate over 2,000 job opportunities.

Autonomous mobile robots equipped with lasers and cameras will be deployed for the movement of equipment to ensure their efficient navigation in the new plant. Industry 4.0 standards have been implemented in the new facility for a fully networked factory consisting of smart manufacturing techniques and facilities. This will be the Tata Power’s second manufacturing unit after Bangalore.

In June 2022, Tata Power Solar Systems Limited commissioned a floating solar power project on a 350-acre water body at the backwaters area in Kayamkulam, Kerala. The project has an installed capacity of 101.6 MWp. The company successfully developed a scaffolding platform on the water body to construct an entire solar plant float on water. This plant boasts a floating inverter platform having a 5 MW capacity.
