Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has won PFC Consulting Limited’s tender to establish a transmission system aimed at evacuating 3,000 MW of power for green hydrogen and ammonia manufacturing projects in the Kandla area of Gujarat. The tender was issued in October 2024. As part of the arrangement, Reliance will acquire 100 per cent equity in Kandla GHA Transmission Limited (KGTL) for Rs 200 million. This acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of June 2025, following which KGTL will become a wholly owned subsidiary of RIL.
RIL will undertake the project on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis. Its responsibilities will cover the complete scope of the project, including designing, engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning. Additionally, the company will carry out all related activities such as conducting surveys, preparing the detailed project report, arranging financing, managing the project, and obtaining necessary consents, clearances, permits, and land compensation.
The company is also tasked with ensuring that the design, construction, and testing of all systems and components comply with the transmission service agreement and relevant regulations issued by the central government. Furthermore, all project assets, including substation land, right of way, and associated clearances, must be transferred after 35 years from the project’s commercial operational date. This transfer is to be done at zero cost and without any encumbrances or liabilities.
