Vattenfall commissions 168 MW Vesterhav Syd offshore wind farm

Vattenfall has completed the commissioning of the 168 MW Vesterhav Syd offshore wind project in Denmark. Currently, 170,000 homes are receiving some of their energy needs from the wind farm. Vesterhav Syd’s 20 turbines were installed in July and September of 2023. In November 2023, the project’s first power was fed into the Danish grid.

Reportedly, the offshore wind farm has a companion facility, Vesterhav Nord, with 176 MW of capacity. In the first quarter of 2024, Vesterhav Nord is anticipated to be connected to the grid. The combined 8.4 MW capacity of 41 turbines is shared by the two wind farms. With a total installed capacity of 344 MW, 168 MW at Vesterhav Syd and 176 MW at Vesterhav Nord, they can cover the needs of over 350,000 Danish households and provide vital assistance to the West Jutland energy grid. The company won the tender for the project in 2016.

In December 2023, RWE acquired the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone portfolio from Vattenfall. The portfolio comprises three offshore wind development projects off the east coast of England – Norfolk Vanguard West, Norfolk Vanguard East and Norfolk Boreas. The three projects, each with a planned capacity of 1.4 GW, are located 50 to 80 km off the coast of Norfolk in East Anglia.
