Fukushima Fukko Furyoku’s wind project commences commercial operation in Japan

Fukushima Fukko Furyoku’s 147 MW wind project has completed construction and has commenced commercial operation in Japan. Fukushima Fukko Furyoku is a company in which firms have collectively invested. These companies are Sumitomo Corporation, JR East Energy Development , Fukushima Mirai Kenkyukai, Japan Wind Engineering, Fukushima Electric Power, Shimizu Corporation, OBYASHI CLEAN ENERGY, RENOVA Inc. and Shinobuyama Fukushima Power Co.  They have been working towards advancing the construction of the Abukuma Wind Power Plants No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 which is collectively referred to as the wind farm.

Furthermore, the wind farm will generate renewable energy, which will be supplied to multiple companies and municipalities with business operations in Fukushima Prefecture. This will be done through corporate power purchase agreements. A proportion of revenue from energy sales will be used to fund reconstruction projects in local municipalities where the wind farm is located. Additionally, this will be carried out through the Fukushima Prefecture Renewable Energy Reconstruction Promotion Council.

Japan’s wind energy sector has been rapidly expanding. Earlier in February 2025, Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation commenced commercial operation of the Ashikawa Wind Farm. The wind farm has a capacity of 128.8 MW and is situated in Toyotomi Town, Hokkaido. The Wind Farm is part of the Dohoku Wind Power Generation Project. This project will install 107 wind turbines across six wind farms in northern Hokkaido.
