Hindustan Zinc Limited has strengthened its partnership with Serentica Renewables India by signing an agreement to increase its round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy supply from 450 MW to 530 MW. The agreement guarantees a minimum of 315 MW of uninterrupted power in every 15-minute time block, ensuring a stable supply through a combination of solar, wind, and energy storage technologies.
The project will be developed across multiple high-resource locations in India under a captive structure and is expected to be fully operational by 2027. Reportedly, the first flow of renewable power from Serentica’s 180 MW solar park has already been utilised in the production of Asia’s first low-carbon zinc, EcoZen. Furthermore, this expansion raises the share of renewable energy in Hindustan Zinc’s total power consumption to over 70 per cent.
In October 2024, Hindustan Zinc approved a Rs 3.27 billion investment in Serentica Renewables and its affiliates to acquire a 26 per cent stake, securing the aforementioned 530 MW of RTC power under a group captive arrangement, with phased project commissioning from 2027 over a 25-year period.
