UltraTech deploys 100 EV trucks for logistic operations

UltraTech Cement Limited is scaling up the use of electric trucks in its logistics operations. The company has contracted 100 EV trucks to transport 75,000 tonnes of clinker monthly over a 400-km roundtrip between its Dhar Cement Works in Madhya Pradesh and Dhule Cement Works in Maharashtra. This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 17,000 tonnes annually.

The scale-up follows a successful pilot launched in January 2024 with five EV trucks. UltraTech reportedly plans to deploy 500 EV trucks by June 2025 under the Government of India’s eFAST initiative and is evaluating additional routes for EV adoption.

Currently, UltraTech operates 468 CNG and 67 LNG trucks as part of its green logistics strategy. A signatory to the GCCA Climate Ambition 2050, UltraTech aims to integrate sustainability into its operations while working towards its Net Zero goal by 2050.

In August 2024, UltraTech raised $500 million through a sustainability-linked loan to meet their sustainability and ESG goals. The loan was provided by six banks, namely, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), State Bank of India, Development Bank of Singapore Limited, BNP Paribus, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Mizuho; with SMBC being the sustainability coordinator and the advisor for this transaction.
