Opdenergy, a Spanish renewable energy company, has received a 100 per cent favourable Environmental Impact Permit for 1.14 GW of capacity in Spain. Of the total capacity, 902 MW is currently in the construction phase while 244 MW is being prepared for construction. The projects are located in the provinces of Zamora, Ciudad Real, Zaragoza, Cuenca, Teruel, and Badajoz in Spain.
Opdenergy intends to build six projects totaling 331 MW in the province of Cuenca, and eight projects totaling 302 MW in the city of Zaragoza. In addition, Zamora is expected to develop five projects with a combined capacity of 244 MW. Opdenergy will construct two assets in Teruel with a combined capacity of 96 MW and three projects in Badajoz province totaling 131 MW. The renewable energy company also intends to launch a 42 MW plant in Ciudad Real. All these projects are intended to be developed by January 25, 2023.
According to Opdenergy, the projects will assist the regional economy through local employment, municipal taxes, and the lease of private and municipal land. The company stated that it has already secured all of the major equipment contracts needed to complete the project. Opdenergy, a Madrid-based company, now has 400 MW in its development pipeline in addition to 1.6 GW of operational and under construction capacity. By 2030, Spain intends to install 70 GW of new renewable energy capacity, part of the company’s goal to accelerate Europe’s energy transition and independence.
