Honeywell to foster decarbonisation of Virgin Islands in the US

Honeywell revealed that it will supply VIElectron with its first batch of battery energy storage solutions (BESS) to six solar parks placed strategically throughout the US Virgin Islands. After construction is finished, the solar array and BESS will contribute to the islands’ decarbonisation efforts by supplying 30 per cent of their energy needs from renewable sources. The approach will allow VIElectron to deploy solar panels over St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John while balancing out the energy peaks and valleys that solar power can cause.

Furthermore, the company’s solution will assist VIElectron in providing cleaner and more economical energy to people of St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. The 124 MWh BESS will have an end-to-end battery management system with improved energy controls and an integrated safety system. These skills will assist the US Virgin Islands in forecasting and optimising energy usage and expenses, resulting in more economical and clean electricity for its citizens via the 140 MWDC solar array.

Honeywell is an integrated operating company serving a broad range of industries and geographies around the world.  It is aligned with three powerful megatrends – automation, the future of aviation and energy transition. Earlier this year, the company unveiled an end-to-end modular system of batteries under the name Ionic.
