ENGIE has acquired two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Andalusia totaling 278 MW/1.1 GWh. These facilities located in Álora (78 MW/312 MWh) and Tarifa (200 MW/800 MWh) provide four hours of storage and utilise synchronous condensers to stabilise the grid through inertia and reactive power management. Construction on the projects is scheduled to commence in 2027, with the projects expected to be commissioned in 2028.
In January 2026, ENGIE signed a 10-year biomethane purchase agreement with PepsiCo UK. Under the agreement, ENGIE will construct a new anaerobic digestion facility in northern England with an annual biomethane production capacity of 60 GWh. All output from the plant will be contracted to PepsiCo through a mass balance mechanism, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027 once the facility becomes operational.
In December 2025, ENGIE achieved full commercial operations at the Serra do Assuruá wind complex in Gentio do Ouro, Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. The project has an installed capacity of 846 MW, consisting of 188 wind turbines spread across 24 wind farms and is supported by 28 km of transmission lines that connect the facility to Brazil’s main electricity grid. The project supplies renewable electricity to the free energy market.
