The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an investment of Rs 141.05 billion for the development of the 1200 MW (6 x 190 MW & 1 x 60 MW) Kalai-II hydroelectric project on the Lohit River in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh. The Project will be implemented through a joint venture company between THDC India Limited and the government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Furthermore, the project is expected to generate 4852.95 million units of energy annually. Moreover, the government of India shall extend Rs 5.99 billion as budgetary support for the construction of roads, bridges, and associated transmission lines under enabling infrastructure, besides central financial assistance of Rs 7.50 billion towards equity share of the state. The project is estimated to be completed in 78 months.
Moreover, the state will receive 12 per cent free power, and a further 1 per cent will be allocated to the local area development fund, along with substantial infrastructure development and socio-economic benefits for the region. Significant infrastructure improvements will be conducted in Namsai and Anjaw districts of Arunachal Pradesh, including the development of around 29 km of roads and bridges. These assets will largely be available for local use. The project will strengthen power supply in the state, support peak demand management, and contribute to balancing the national grid.
