Bin Zayed International (BZI) and NOVA RE Suria (NRES) have formalised a partnership to develop the PGH2P green hydrogen project in Paka, Terengganu in Malaysia. It is planned as one of Malaysia’s early large-scale green hydrogen projects and will include a 200 MW alkaline electrolysers plant powered through renewable electricity from the grid. The plant is expected to generate nearly 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually at full capacity for domestic as well as international buyers.
The project will be supported by a wide range of collaborators. Through the partnership, BZI will be the lead investor of the project. NRES, the project developer, has arranged a framework engineering, procurement and construction agreement with China Energy Engineering Corporation for the construction of the project. Additionally, it involves cooperation with Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment to assist the promotion and global distribution of hydrogen and its related products, including green ammonia and green methanol. The project is planned as part of an integrated energy system designed to provide carbon-free fuel locally and supply export-grade hydrogen.
The project aligns with national energy-transition plans under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR) frameworks. Moreover, Malaysia’s hydrogen sector is projected to grow at 4.8 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) till 2030. The growth outlook for hydrogen purification equipment alone indicates a projected CAGR above 14 per cent between 2025 and 2033.
