The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has selected Clearway Energy Group to develop a wind project in Aroostook county. The wind project will have an installed capacity of 800 MW. Additionally, the commission has selected Avangrid to develop a high-voltage transmission line connecting the project to the New England grid.
Furthermore, Maine PUC plans to procure 600 MW of electricity from the project, while the remaining power will be supplied to the other New England states. The project is also expected to save Maine electricity customers at least $387 million over its lifetime, with the customers bearing the cost of the power and approximately 11 per cent of the transmission line. Authorities in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont also participated in the procurement.
In February 2026, Clearway Energy Group achieved financial close and commenced construction on the Spindle Energy Center, a 199 MW battery energy storage system project located in Weld County, Colorado. The project will deploy American-made Tesla battery systems with a two-hour duration, enabling storage of up to 398 MWh of dispatchable electricity. It represents a total investment of $261 million.
