Tata Power and DGPC ink agreements for 1,125 MW hydroelectric project

Tata Power Company Limited has inked commercial agreements with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) for the implementation of the 1,125 MW Dorjilung hydroelectric project. The run-of-the-river project will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle with DGPC and Tata Power owning 60 percent and 40 percent equity stakes, respectively.

Furthermore, the project comprises six units of 187.5 MW each and is being developed on the Kurichhu River in Mongar, Bhutan.  It is designed with a six-hour pondage for peaking. Additionally, Tata Power has committed an equity investment of approximately Rs 15.72 billion in the project, which will be infused in phases as per the agreed structure. With a total project cost of Rs 131 billion, the World Bank-supported project is scheduled for commissioning in September 2031 and will supply 80 percent of its generated power to India.

In October 2025, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited inked a power purchase agreement with Tata Power Mumbai Distribution for a contracted capacity of 80 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy project.
