The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has inked a MoU with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to establish a pilot project for the production of green hydrogen. The green hydrogen will be produced from biomass, particularly paddy straw.
Furthermore, the project aims to curb stubble burning and improve air quality. It also seeks to provide additional income opportunities for farmers and promote employment generation in the green energy sector.
Earlier in July 2025, researchers at IISc developed a system that produces 99 per cent pure green hydrogen using agricultural waste. The system is capable of generating 5 kgs of over 99 per cent pure hydrogen per hour using farm residue that would otherwise be burned or emit methane.
Furthermore, in December 2024, PEDA awarded VP Solar Generation the development of 66 solar power projects, each with a capacity of 4 MW, aggregating to 264 MW.
