YPP to invest $3.1 billion in green hydrogen production in Kazakhstan

YPP Corporation (YPP) and KAZAKH INVEST have inked a framework agreement to develop a green hydrogen production project in Kazakhstan. The parties intend to implement a Green Energy Complex in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The investment in the project may reach up to $3.1 billion. It is aimed at creating full-cycle production of green hydrogen and ammonia using renewable energy sources.

The project includes the construction of wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of up to 2 GW. It also includes the installation of electrolysis and ammonia production units. Furthermore, the project is expected to produce upto 750,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, some of which will be converted into 310,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

YPP is a South Korea based engineering and energy company. It deals with energy projects, including renewables, BESS systems, nuclear energy, and green hydrogen. The company has been actively promoting hydrogen export projects as part of the National Hydrogen Strategy of the Republic of Korea.
