Shilpy Dewan: Head, Markets and Operations, Serentica Renewables

“It has been an incredibly diverse and fulfilling ride so far,” says Shilpy Dewan while reminiscing about her 13 years of experience in the energy sector, working across electricity markets, gas trading, transmission and renewables. Currently, leading the markets, commercial operations and digitalisation initiatives at Serentica Renewables, Dewan oversees everything from forecasting and scheduling to trading and settlement for the company’s renewable energy portfolio, including battery or pumped hydro projects.

After completing her MBA in Infrastructure and Finance from TERI University, she began her journey with the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). At IEX, she observed how policy, market structures and innovation can shape the future of energy. Dewan later joined Sterlite Power, where she worked at the managing director’s office, driving growth strategy and exploring new business areas like offshore wind and international transmission. “I even had the opportunity to help structure India’s first 24×7 renewable power agreement for commercial and industrial consumers,” she says.

Dewan describes her management style as collaborative and outcome-driven. She likes to create an environment where people feel empowered to bring ideas forward, experiment and take ownership. At the same time, she is focused on aligning her team’s daily work with broader strategic goals. “Having worked closely with leadership teams throughout my career, I have developed a keen sense of how to drive initiatives that are both visionary and executable. I enjoy mentoring team members, helping them connect the dots between market dynamics and business decisions,” she adds.

Outside of work, Dewan likes to unplug by spending time with family and friends, reading and exploring new places. “I am also very curious by nature, so I often find myself diving into topics like behavioural science, sustainability trends and emerging tech. I believe it is important to nurture interests beyond your core work – it gives you perspective and keeps the creative energy flowing,” she says.Looking ahead, Dewan wants to continue working at the intersection of energy, innovation and impact. One of her big goals is to help design market mechanisms and business models that accelerate the adoption of clean energy, especially for industries that are harder to decarbonise.

“I also hope to contribute more meaningfully to policy and regulatory dialogues. With the right frameworks, we can unlock a lot more potential from renewables in India. And personally, I would love to mentor the next generation of energy professionals – there is so much excitement in this space, and we need bold, passionate minds to drive it forward.” she says.
