TE H2 begins approval process for $16 billion green hydrogen and ammonia project in Chile

TE H2, a developer majority-owned (80 per cent) by French energy giant TotalEnergies, has filed an environmental impact assessment for its $16 billion green hydrogen and ammonia project in southern Chile. Slated to become one of the country’s largest facilities by 2030, the project is located in San Gregorio, near Tierra del Fuego.

The company intends to build infrastructure for the initial phase, comprising wind turbines, electrolysers, and a port terminal on 4,000 hectares of a 72,000-hectare site.

Recently, in April 2025, TotalEnergies closed the acquisition of three renewable energy portfolios across Europe, Africa, and Canada. This includes the acquisition of VSB Group and SN Power for projects in Europe and Africa. It also consists deals with RES for acquiring renewable energy projects in Alberta.
