ReNew has inaugurated a 1,300 MW peak solar power project in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. The project is spread over approximately 3,500 acres, and covers villages in the Pokran and Bhaniyana tehsils. Around 90 per cent of the solar panels used in this utility-scale installation were manufactured at ReNew’s factory in Jaipur.
The plant is expected to generate approximately 2,490 million units of electricity annually. The energy produced will be supplied to Rajasthan consumers at a tariff of Rs 2.18 per kWh. Reportedly, the project will be able to meet the annual energy needs of around 500,000 households in the state. Based on an emission factor of 936 grams of carbon per unit, the project will help offset nearly 2.3 million tonnes of carbon emissions every year.
Additionally, communities surrounding the project site will receive fixed income for the next 25 years through land lease agreements for their unused agricultural land.
