JIRE secures LoA for 300 MW solar and 300 MWh storage project from NHPC

Jindal India Renewable Energy Limited (JIRE), part of BC Jindal Group, has secured the letter of acceptance (LoA) for 300 MW of solar power capacity along with a 150 MW/300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) from NHPC Limited. The project was awarded under NHPC’s 1,200 MW inter-state transmission system-connected solar tender, which included 600 MW/1,200 MWh of energy storage. JIRE secured the contract by quoting a tariff of Rs 3.09 per kWh.

Initially allocated 180 MW, JIRE later received an additional 120 MW through the greenshoe option, bringing the total solar project capacity to 300 MW. The solar and storage project will be developed on a build-own-operate basis, with completion expected within 24 months from the signing of the power purchase agreement.

As per the contract terms, JIRE will deploy a minimum BESS capacity of 0.5 MW/1 MWh for every 1 MW of contracted solar capacity. NHPC will procure the power generated from JIRE for a period of 25 years and distribute it to state utilities and other consumers.
