JSW Energy inks PPA with BESCOM for 100 MW solar plus storage project

JSW Energy, through its step-down subsidiary JSW Renew Energy Forty Five has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM). The agreement is for a grid-connected 100 MW solar project integrated with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district.

The project will be connected to the 220/400 kV Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited’s Firozabad substation. The PPA has been signed at a tariff of Rs 4.31 per kWh, according to regulatory filings. Following this development, JSW Energy’s total energy storage capacity has reached 29.4 GWh. This includes 3 GWh of BESS and 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage. 

Earlier this month, JSW Energy signed a battery energy storage purchase agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam for a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS project in Rajasthan, with viability gap funding at a tariff of Rs 224,000 per MW per month.
