Indosol Solar, a subsidiary of Shirdi Sai Electricals Limited, has initiated operations at its new solar PV module manufacturing plant located in Ramayapatnam, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The Stringer unit has been commenced to inaugurate the 500 MW modules line at the project, marking the beginning of India’s ambitious endeavor to enhance domestic manufacturing through the production linked incentive schemes.
During the commissioning phase, the facility is capable of producing 500 MW of fully automated solar PV modules, offering various combinations such as glass-glass and glass-back sheet, including TOPCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact) and HJT (heterojunction technology) modules. An investment of Rs 13 billion will be dedicated to developing the initial phase, covering an area of 30 acres of allocated land thus far.
Upon its completion, this facility will be recognised as the world’s inaugural fully integrated quartz-to-module manufacturing plant, boasting an ultimate capacity of 30 GW for upstream operations and 20 GW for downstream facility. The entire project is envisioned to be implemented in stages within the next five years. The comprehensive project necessitates 8,348 acres of land, encompassing ancillary industries, a township, common infrastructure such as roads and power, a 100 MLD desalination plant, storage facilities, among others. It mandates a mandatory 33 per cent green area and does not encompass the land necessary for captive power generation.
The phase 1A of the project is slated for completion by December 2024, featuring manufacturing capacities for 500 MW modules, 500 MW cells, and 500 MW ingot-wafer, offering employment opportunities to 800 individuals. While, phase 1 of the project, encompassing approximately 5 GW, will be fully accomplished by 2025, with an investment of Rs 15 billion. Furthermore, an additional production capacity of 5 GW of glass panels, a crucial raw material for the modules, will be manufactured in-house. The complete capacity is set to be achieved by 2028.
