A new report “Accelerating the Deployment of Offshore Wind in India” has been published that identifies the actions needed to realise and accelerate India’s offshore wind ambitions.
Driven by a target of achieving net zero by 2070, India has ambitions to become a prominent player in the offshore wind industry. Building on its heritage in onshore wind and considering its strong offshore wind resources, India holds considerable potential to become a significant player in the global market. Over the last decade, the Government of India has established initial policies and frameworks to support the offshore wind segment. This preparatory activity has drawn international interest but offshore wind deployment is yet to start.
Led by BVG Associates (BVGA) with support from MEC+, the report identifies the gaps in policy, frameworks, and delivery models that are hindering offshore wind acceleration in India. The report draws on insights from various established and emerging offshore wind markets and Indian stakeholder dialogue. These insights inform a set of strategic and practical recommendations for the successful establishment of a sustainable offshore wind industry in India.
