Hive Energy, a UK-based solar energy company, has announced plans to build 4 GW of solar and battery storage capacity in Turkey. With an estimated $4 billion in investment, the company plans to build the projects in 30 different cities across the country. It has requested permission to construct projects with co-located solar and battery storage that range in size from 11 MW to 230 MW. The projects have been planned in 19 cities across Turkey, ranging from Gaziantep in the south-east to Balkesir in the west.
As per the company’s statement, pre-licensing for the grid capacities is anticipated to occur in the first quarter of 2023. Following that, the company will initiate talks with international funds and financial institutions in order to attract foreign direct investment to Turkey. Hive Energy has been present in Turkey since 2015 and has completed one project in the country. The company currently has a 26 GW development pipeline across 20 countries, which includes solar, battery, wind, green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.
Earlier this month, CSI Energy Storage won a contract to supply up to 550 MWh of battery storage capacity to Pulse Clean Energy in the UK. The 550 MWh of capacity has CSI Energy Storage’s proprietary SolBank system and would be installed at several of Pulse’s locations. In the UK, Pulse has established a pipeline of grid-scale battery storage and energy optimisation projects with a combined capacity of more than 2 GWh.
