Vestas, Danish wind turbine manufacturer, has announced the sale of its 183 MW Delta wind project in Mississippi, US, to the AES Corporation. No financial details have been disclosed. Vestas’ North American development arm, Steelhead Americas, is working on the Delta project. Reportedly , it would be the first wind project in Mississippi and would be situated at a higher altitude to access stronger wind speeds. For the project to be ready for installation and construction, Steelhead Americas was in charge of obtaining the necessary permits, acquiring the required land, and designing the construction. By creating renewable energy assets, Vestas intends to increase its market share in the clean energy sector.
The company also aims to accelerate the transition to clean energy so that local communities can obtain employment and economic growth. Additionally, it anticipates paying taxes on the Delta wind project for a total of more than $60 million. Since its establishment in 2016, Steelhead Americas has helped Vestas in securing more over 3.3 GW in North American turbine orders.
Earlier this month, Vestas signed an agreement to supply wind turbines to EnBW for the 900 MW He Dreiht offshore project in Germany on a conditional basis. The agreement was reached after EnBW pre-selected Vestas to supply the offshore wind turbines for the project through an EU tender process in July 2021. Under the terms of the contract, Vestas will be responsible for supplying 64 units of V236-15.0 MW wind turbines, as well as servicing the wind project for a number of years once it is operational.
