In December 2016, Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturer Vestas received orders aggregating 2.75 GW across 12 countries worldwide. In the US alone, it received orders for 1.64 GW of capacity, accounting for almost 60 per cent of the total orders. Of the total 31 orders, the larger ones were in Australia, the US and the UK. In Australia, the company received an order aggregating 270 MW for the Sapphire wind farm project located in Glen Innes, New South Wales. The wind farm is an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project to be delivered by Vestas under a consortium agreement with civil and electrical balance of plant contractor Zenviron. The order includes the supply of 75 units of V126-3.45 MW turbines with power optimised mode up to 3.6 MW. It also includes a minimum 10-year active output management 4000 (AOM 4000) service contract. The turbines are likely to be installed in the second half of 2018. In the UK, the company received the largest onshore order so far, totalling 228 MW of capacity, from British energy company SSE plc for the Stronelairg wind farm located in Scotland. The order includes 53 units of V117-3.45 MW and 13 units of V112-3.45 MW wind turbines with a tip height of 135 metres and 125 metres respectively. In addition, the order includes a 20-year AOM 4000 agreement. The delivery of turbines is likely to begin in the third quarter of 2017 and commissioning will be completed by 2018. Vestas also received a 300 MW order in early January 2017 for a wind farm in the US. It includes the supply and commissioning of 150 units of V110-2.0 MW turbines, as well as a multi-year service agreement. The delivery of turbines is likely to begin in the second quarter of 2017 and commissioning will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017.
