NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) has won SJVN Limited’s auction for the development of 265 MW/530 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Haryana at a tariff of Rs 235,000 per MW per month. The tender, valued at approximately Rs 6.36 billion, comprises two projects with capacities of 250 MW/500 MWh and 15 MW/30 MWh. The projects will be eligible for viability gap funding support of up to Rs 1.8 million per MWh and will be located near the 220 kV substation of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited at the 710 MW Panipat thermal power station.
Furthermore, SJVN will enter into a battery energy storage purchase agreement with NIRL for a period of 12 years. Under the tender guidelines, the developer will be responsible for setting up the BESS and connecting it to the state transmission utility network, including construction of the required bay. Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL) will be responsible for identifying and allocating project land. The BESS will draw power from and inject power into the UHBVNL network, with provision for two complete charge-discharge cycles per day and a minimum monthly system availability of 95 per cent.
In September 2026, NIRL incorporated a joint venture company with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA), named NIRL OREDA Renewables Limited, to set up green energy power plants. NIRL holds a 51 per cent equity stake in the JV, while OREDA holds the remaining 49 per cent.
