Suzlon unveils S175 wind turbine for FDRE projects

Suzlon has launched the S175 (5 MW) wind turbine, following its commissioning at Vijayanagar, Karnataka. The turbine has been designed for firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects, and is expected to support the integration of wind energy into hybrid and round-the-clock power solutions. The S175 wind turbine features a 175-metre rotor, a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower, and a blade tip height of 247.5 metres. The taller structure enables access to higher wind speeds and is intended to enhance energy capture. The turbine also incorporates advanced aerodynamic design, carbon girder blade technology, and digital control systems to support operational efficiency and performance.

Part of Suzlon’s modular Blue Sky platform, the turbine is built with proven doubly-fed induction generator systems, which support long-term operational performance. Developed using operational experience from the company’s wind turbine fleet of 15.5 GW, it is designed to improve energy generation and project economics, particularly in low- to medium-wind-speed sites across India.
