Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 72.5 MW captive solar project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for Tata Steel Limited. The project has been developed through TP Vardhman Surya Limited, a subsidiary of TPREL. It is expected to generate 166 MUs of green energy annually, and offset around 118,856 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Furthermore, the project uses 171,360 solar modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited. With the addition of this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.3 GW, of which around 7 GW is operational and approximately 5.3 GW is under various stages of implementation. The operational capacity includes 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind projects.
Earlier in August 2026, TPREL commissioned a 190.5 MW solar firm and despatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project is part of the contractual capacity of a 460 MW FDRE project under SJVN FDRE Tranche-1.
