Net Zero Energy (NZE) has planned to develop the €2 billion Rathrush Green Energy Park long-duration energy storage (LDES) project in County Carlow, Ireland. The project with an installed capacity of 600 MW, will use surplus wind and solar power to produce green hydrogen, which will be stored in underground lined rock caverns and later converted back into electricity for supply to the national grid when needed. The project is expected to avoid approximately 180,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Furthermore, the project represents a development cost of approximately €2billion. NZE also plans to submit a planning application for the project by the end of 2026, following an ongoing community consultation process. Ireland has a target to reach 80 per cent clean electricity by 2030. NZE is developing the supporting projects that can get Ireland to a 100 per cent decarbonised power system.
In February 2026, ib vogt completed the sale of a 272 MWp solar portfolio in Ireland for a total enterprise value of approximately €230 million. The portfolio comprises three utility-scale projects: Gaskinstown with a capacity of 94.7 MWp in County Meath, Rathnaskilloge with a capacity of 107.7 MWp in County Waterford, and Clonin North with a capacity of 69.4 MWp in County Offaly. The assets were developed by Highfield Solar, a joint venture in which ib vogt is a partner.
