Australia awards 7.8 GW of clean energy projects

Australia’s Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy has announced the results of Tender 7 under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). A total of 19 renewable energy projects were selected, delivering 7.8 GW, exceeding the original 5 GW target  of capacity. Of which 8 projects are hybrid systems combining wind or solar generation with battery storage.These hybrid projects will add more than 2.0 GW of storage capacity to the electricity grid. The 19 selected projects span multiple states. 

In New South Wales, the projects include the 346 MW Baldon Wind Farm with 132 MWh BESS operated by Goldwind/Omni; 600 MW Birriwa Solar with 2400 MWh BESS operated by ACEN Australia; 300 MW Bullawah Wind Farm Stage 1 operated by BayWa; 300 MW Dinawan Solar Project with 1200 MWh BESS operated by Spark Renewables; Gundary Hybrid Facility with 320 MW Solar and 1,391 MWh BESS operated by Lightsource BP; Gunning Hybrid Project with 290 MW solar and 542 MWh BESS operated by Zero-E/Grupo Cobra; Kayuga Solar Farm and BESS with 85 MW Solar operated by European Energy Australia; Wattle Creek Hybrid with 180 MW Solar and 720 MWh BESS operated by Spark Renewables and 1,498 MW Yanco Delta Wind Farm operated by Origin Energy.
