PSPCL announces results of 1 GWh BESS auction

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced the results of its auction to set up 500 MW/1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Punjab. Stockwell Solar won 150 MW/300 MWh capacity at Rs 335,000 per MW per month. Rama Reflection India secured 250 MW/500 MWh at a tariff of Rs 344,000 per MW per month, while Ceigall India won 100 MW/200 MWh out of the 500 MW/1,000 MWh quoted under bucket-filling method, at the same tariff. The tender was issued in January 2026.

Additionally, PSPCL will sign a 12-year battery energy storage purchase agreement from the commissioning date with the selected companies. Under the project, the selected developers will install BESS to store electricity for charging and discharging, and supply it to PSPCL as needed. The batteries will be charged using electricity from the PSPCL/Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) network and will discharge power back into the same network in accordance with the instructions issued by the state load dispatch centre. Furthermore, PSPCL/PSTCL will provide land for the projects on a lease or right-to-use basis, at an annual lease charge of Rs 1 per acre.

Earlier, in April 2026, PSPCL announced the results of its auction to procure 500 MW of solar power from projects located across the country on a long-term basis. SAEL Industries, Waaree Energies, Technique Solaire, and Hindustan Power emerged as the winners of the auction.
