Clearway Energy Group has achieved financial close and commenced construction on the Spindle Energy Center, a 199 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Weld County, Colorado. The project will deploy American-made Tesla battery systems with a two-hour duration, enabling storage of up to 398 MWh of dispatchable electricity. It represents a total investment of $261 million. The project is scheduled to achieve commercial operations in late 2026.
The Spindle Energy Center is backed by a long-term contract with Public Service Company of Colorado, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, under which the project will supply reliable and dispatchable power. Financing for the project has been secured through a consortium of lenders comprising US Bank National Association, BBVA, KeyBanc Capital Markets, National Australia Bank Limited, and Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale. Additionally, construction activities are being undertaken in partnership with Blattner Energy.
In February 2026, Clearway Energy brought online the Pine Forest Energy Center in Hopkins county, Texas, comprising 300 MW of solar capacity and 200 MW of BESS capacity. The project represented an investment of $685 million in utility-scale clean energy infrastructure. The construction activities for the project were undertaken by Blattner Energy.
