JERA Nex bp has agreed to acquire EnBW’s stake in the Mona offshore wind farm and has entered into a lease agreement with The Crown Estate for the project. This development allows the company to progress the project toward the next stages of development. Once operational, the project will have a generation capacity of 1,500 MW, supplying renewable electricity capacity to the UK grid. The wind farm is moving closer to a final investment decision.
As per the company release, the project also has the potential to support employment generation, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and provide economic benefits to coastal communities in Wales and other parts of the UK. Moreover, under prevailing market conditions, JERA Nex bp has decided not to move ahead with the agreement for lease related to the Morgan offshore wind project. JERA Nex bp and EnBW will reportedly continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to manage the consequences of this decision.
In August 2025, the UK government approved the Morgan offshore wind farm. The project includes deployment of 96 turbines over 32 km off the Fylde coast. Once operational, it is expected to supply electricity to about 1.5 million households annually.
