RWE and Amazon ink PPA for offshore wind project in Germany

RWE and Amazon have entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 110 MW of offshore wind capacity from the Nordseecluster B project in Germany. The agreement builds on a strategic framework agreement signed in June 2025, under which RWE supports Amazon’s carbon-free energy objectives, while Amazon Web Services provides cloud services, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to support RWE’s digital transformation efforts.

The Nordseecluster offshore wind project is located in the German North Sea, approximately 50 km north of the island of Juist. It is being developed in two stages, with Nordseecluster A comprising 660 MW currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning in early 2027. Moreover, Nordseecluster B will add 900 MW, with commercial operations planned for 2029. The offshore wind farm is being developed as a joint venture between RWE, holding a 51 per cent stake, and Norges Bank Investment Management, which holds the remaining 49 per cent.

In January 2026, the Danish Energy Agency granted a 30-year electricity production licence to the 1.1 GW Thor offshore wind farm, being developed as a joint venture between RWE, which holds a 51 per cent stake, and Norges Bank Investment Management, which owns the remaining 49 per cent. The project is expected to be fully operational by 2027. RWE is responsible for overseeing construction and managing operations across the entire lifecycle of the project.
