ENGIE has achieved full commercial operations at the Serra do Assuruá wind complex in Gentio do Ouro, Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. The project has an installed capacity of 846 MW, consisting of 188 wind turbines spread across 24 wind farms and is supported by 28 km of transmission lines that connect the facility to Brazil’s main electricity grid, enabling nationwide power evacuation. Operations at the wind complex commenced progressively from August 2024 after receiving authorisation from Brazil’s electricity regulator, ANEEL.
The project supplies renewable electricity to the free energy market, which allows corporate consumers to procure power directly from generators and choose their preferred source of generation. Reportedly, this framework enables end users to secure renewable power through bilateral contracts while supporting large-scale clean energy integration into the grid. Moreover, ENGIE has implemented social initiatives alongside the project’s development.
In December 2025, ENGIE achieved financial close for the BC-Wind Polish offshore wind project located around 23 km off the Polish Baltic Sea coast within the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone. The project will comprise 26 turbines of 14 MW each, equipped with a power boost feature raising output to 15 MW, taking total planned capacity to up to 390 MW. The project will reportedly deliver its first power in 2028.
